So in April I sat my OWLs with a whole lot of other students and I did very well (I got an Outstanding by passing all 12 subjects). Now I have received my letter from Hogwarts that it is time to sit my NEWTs.

The NEWTs will be held over the month of August so there is 31 days to complete any of the subjects that you wish to do.

The main video for this readathon is up on Book Roasts channel which I highly recommend watching but the general idea is that in order to complete the subjects for the NEWTs exam you must have passed the subjects in the OWLs and as I passed all 12 subjects I can take any of the subjects exams. However just like the OWLs I am going to try sitting all 12 exams and getting outstandings for all of them….. I know I’m crazy.

The other key rule with this readathon is that you must complete one level before moving on to the next. So you have to read a book for the A level prompt before moving onto the E level and both prompts before the O level. So basically in order to get Os in every subject you need to read 36 books.

The second rule of the exams is that in order to pass the NEWTs you must obtain a minimum of Acceptable in 2 subjects and an Outstanding in 1. This means to pass this readathon you need to read a minimum of 4 books. So the grades for this readathon are as follows:

Passing Grades:

Outstanding – O – Read all three books for the subject
Exceeded Expectations – E – Read the first two books for the subject
Acceptable – A – Read the first book for the subject

Failing Grades:

Poor – Run out of time but read over 80% of A level
Dreadful – Run out of time but read around 50% of A level
Troll – Run out of time but read under 20% of A level

I have worked it out and in order to achieve Outstandings in all classes I need to read 295.2 pages a day, which is maybe doable especially since there is a lot of graphic novels on my list and they wont take long to complete. I will be doing a weekly wrap up as I did with the Owls to keep you guys updated on my progress as well as doing a weekly vlog on my BookTube channel.
