CINDER, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She’s reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen – and a dangerous temptation.Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth’s future.
This is not the fairytale you remember. But it’s one you won’t forget.
I really enjoyed reading this book and it completely hooked me from the start even as this was a re-read for me. I love the world of Cinder and how the technology of the world isn’t completely out of the question. Governments have talked about having inserted chips as a form of ID and there are many people working on hovercrafts.
Marissa Meyer is an amazing writer and did a wonderful job of incorporating the story of Cinderella in this new world. I felt like I was walking around with Cinder as the settings were perfectly described and I was fully engrossed in the story.
I really like Cinder as a character and there was a good mix between the evolving story and incorporating her back story. My favourite character though was Prince Kai. He was well balanced between being the new King and all the responsibilities that entails as well as being quick witted and cheeky just as a young prince would be.
In general I love retellings and heard a lot of good reviews about this series and this book lived up to them and I would highly recommend this series.
